Recently Karnataka government has announced the loan forgiveness of farmers worth 34000 crore rupees. Many appreciate it as a government great step toward Welfare of farmers and many other opposition parties criticize it by saying it not more than a political stunt. But among this, we forgot to discuss whether it is right or wrong for the economy of India and for farmers also.
As we know that this type of promise to forgive the loan of the farmer is now very popular and is spreading like a virus in the whole country. Before every election, most of the party announces to forgive the loan and give better lifestyle to farmers etc. And if some parties avoid such kind of promise then so-called " farmer's well-wishers " start imposing mental pressure on them to do so. As we all know that every party has started preparing for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. And most of the parties start making this as a prime topic of next year election's campaign. Rahul Gandhi has done several election campaigns and during most of his campaign, he tried to explain that only by forgiving loan of farmers we can do something good for them.
Before the budget of Karnataka government, Rahul Gandhi had said that they will forgive the loan of farmers. And I can't understand why he said that this will create a positive hope between farmers. As Rahul Gandhi said Karnataka's CM Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy announces 2 lakh per person debt forgiveness.
It is notable that Central government has no role in this action of Karnataka's Government but this does not make them different. We can see such type of action in several States where BJP rules. Political parties think that it can main polarise farmers towards them for the future elections.
Forgiveness of loan is acceptable for some reason such as loss of crops due to some natural disasters. But before every election, most of the political parties announce such kind of things which in my views is not acceptable at any cost. Because by doing so they are imbalancing our economy, doing injustice with banks and spreading false messages among those farmers who are capable of paying their loan.

But at the end of the day I know, you know, political parties know, every news agency knows, economist know and even farmers knows that loan forgiveness is imbalancing our economic system. But, maybe political parties see farmers as a vote bank rather than the lifeline of India.
